Jenkins 2.585 - Remoting Floor Raised and New Manage Jenkins UI by Default

Jenkins 2.585 is a weekly release, tagged jenkins-2.585 and published on 6 October 2026. The change that matters most to operators is the higher minimum Remoting version, which can affect older agents. It is not a prerelease.

The full release notes and downloads are on the GitHub release page. The notes are an auto generated draft. The official changelog is at jenkins.io/changelog/2.585/.

PR #27439 raises the minimum required Remoting version from 3176.v207ec082a_8c0 to 3256.3258.v858f3c9a_f69d. Remoting is the library that connects the controller to agents. If your agents run a pinned or baked in agent.jar, check the version before you roll this out.

The tradeoff is simple. The controller can drop support for old protocol behavior. Teams with long lived static agents or frozen container images pay for it with an agent refresh. Agents that fetch agent.jar from the controller on connect should pick up the new version without action.

A practical check before upgrading: list agents and compare their Remoting versions to the new floor. Fix the stragglers first. Then upgrade the controller.

PR #27474 fixes a missing return after sendError in doDoFingerprintCheck. Without the return, the handler could keep running after it had already sent an error response. The notes do not say whether this was exploitable and do not assign an advisory. Treat it as a correctness fix and read the official changelog for any further detail.

Related, PR #27058 clarifies the RequirePOST warning page, tracked as JENKINS-75944. That is a wording change on a page users see when a GET hits an endpoint that needs POST.

PR #26999 enables the new Manage Jenkins UI by default. Admins who scripted around the old layout, or who wrote runbooks with screenshots, will see a different page after the upgrade. The underlying configuration pages are the same. This is a presentation change.

The experimental job and dashboard pages also got work:

  • PR #27380 standardises the experimental pages, makes the side panel scroll independently, and makes the build bar sticky.
  • PR #27408 adds filtering to the experimental Job page.
  • PR #27483 restores the missing New Item button in the new dashboard view.
  • PR #27387 fixes missing badges on header dropdown menu items.

These are UI changes. They do not touch the build pipeline or the REST API. The New Item fix is worth noting because it is a regression in the new dashboard view, and anyone who opted in early may have hit it.

PR #27032 fixes sortable date column ordering for 12 AM (midnight) times. Builds that start at midnight were sorted wrongly in date columns.

PR #27471 shows the cloud display name instead of the name. With several cloud configurations, this makes the node and provisioning views easier to read.

The localization item is a Ukrainian translation update for the browser reload message (PR #26170).
